AIA | Archaeology in Space w/Dr. Sarah Parcak

August 23, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

The Felicia A. Holton Book Award celebrates an author of a popular non-fiction title that brings the excitement and importance of archaeology to the general public. Our Holton Lecture is a new tradition we’re excited to continue. After last year’s inaugural Holton Lecture featuring the 2021 Felicia A. Holton Book Award winner, Dr. Peter Bogucki, was a resounding success with over 1,000 Zoom participants, we decided to make this an annual event. Join us on Tuesday, August 23 at 1:00 pm CT as the 2022 Holton Book Award winner, Dr. Sarah Parcak, gives us a lecture on her book, Archaeology from Space: How the Future Shapes our Past. Parcak is a National Geographic Society Archaeology Fellow and a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also serves as the founding Director of the Laboratory for Global Observation. Archaeology from Space, published by Macmillan, and winner of the Phi Beta Kappa Prize for Science, gives readers a lively and personal introduction to the field of space archaeology, showing us how satellite imagery and remote sensing can help us do better archaeology and improve our understanding of the human past.
