Amplifying BIPOC Voices in Sustainability: Reinvestment after Divestment

Institutional divestment from fossil fuels has picked up steam in recent years. But what happens after divestment? How, exactly, do institutions re-invest their money, and how do we ensure that reinvestment is equitable and socially sustainable?
Join us on Wednesday, April 28th, at 7:00pm for our sixth installment of the Amplifying BIPOC Voices in Sustainability series, titled “Reinvestment after Divestment,” hosted by the Social Sustainability Coalition (SSC). Together we will learn more about the creative and impactful ways we can re-invest into our communities for a more just climate transition.
PANELISTS:
Kai Brito – Outreach Specialist for Sustain Dane’s Naturally Occurring and Affordable Housing (NOAH) project and founder of Earthspeak Radio
Bianca Gomez – Gender Justice Coordinator for Freedom, Inc. and one of the founders of the Black Liberation Action Coalition (BLAC) in Madison
Grace Bulltail – Assistant Professor at the Nelson Institute whose research focuses on the interactions of land use and natural resource management in tribal communities with a focus on promoting capacity-building and equity

The Amplifying BIPOC Voices in Sustainability series is intended to highlight the work of one or more UW-Madison/Madison BIPOC community members engaging with social sustainability. Leading up to the event, we use our social media platforms to share resources with the Badger community, inviting our audience to learn with us about the current topic (find us at @sustainuw). On the last Wednesday of the month, we will host a virtual event where attendees have the opportunity to learn firsthand from the featured community member(s).
