Art Institute of Chicago | The Mundanity of This World and the Nether Realm

May 21, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

How was everyday life portrayed by pre-modern Chinese painters? What are the compelling parallels and contrasts between lives of mortal beings and the experiences of ghosts inhabiting an underground realm?
Join Chicago Objects Study Initiative (COSI) fellows Xi Zhang and Meng Zhao to explore paintings illustrating the comical drudgery of commoners’ mundane lives and the commonplace experiences with which ghosts entertain and amuse themselves.
