“Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral: Conceived in the Round,” a talk by Dominic Wilkinson

Marking the point of departure from tradition for the architecture of Catholic churches, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral was emblematic of the brave new world of the 1960’s. The dramatic form and presence on the skyline is matched by its embrace of contemporary art for its fixtures and fittings, most notably its Dalle de Verre glass by Piper and Reyntiens. This talk will examine the integrated conception of art and architecture envisaged by Sir Frederick Gibberd and the artists he worked with.
