Badger Talks Live: The Beatles “Let Me Take You Down…”

February 17, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This is a FREE, virtual event which will take place on the UW Connects Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/UWConnects/live
In February of 1967, the Beatles released one of the most ambitious singles of their career with Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane. In this Badger Talk, Mead Witter School of Music professor Brandon Quarles walks us through the history and creation of these iconic recordings, showing us what makes them so revolutionary while illuminating the differences in the styles of their composers: John Lennon and Paul McCartney. After the presentation, Brandon will take any and all Beatles questions you may have.
Brandon Quarles is the Associate Lecturer of Classical Saxophone at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he is the Executive Director and soprano saxophonist of ~Nois, a Chicago-based saxophone quartet that defies categorization by working at the junction of contemporary classical music and experimental improvisation.
In addition to performing on and teaching the saxophone, Brandon recently designed and taught an undergraduate course on the music and history of the Beatles at Northwestern University. Since his teenage years, Brandon has been making music in the pop/rock idiom as a performer on saxophone, vocals, guitars, and keyboards and as a songwriter/arranger.
