British Museum | Chaucer: “Telling Tales”

July 21, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

In Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, 23 characters take part in a story-telling contest on their way to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket in Canterbury.
In this online event, join Professor Marion Turner (University of Oxford) and Patience Agbabi (Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature) as they explore the world of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and its influence.
Marion Turner will discuss the historical context in which Chaucer wrote the tales and how his work connects with the world of pilgrimage to the shrine of Thomas Becket. Patience Agbabi will perform some of the poetry from her book Telling Tales (2014), inspired by Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, using modern characters and idioms.
