CDMC: Amanda Thatch, “Long Draw (Training for Spinsterhood)”

April 23, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

As part of her Design Studies Master in Fine Arts exhibition “Tromp as Writ,” Amanda Thatch will be spinning yarn in the window of the Ruth Davis Design Gallery on two Friday afternoons. With the gallery closed, Thatch will be livestreaming the performance via her YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSPM5FwTSsc).
Thatch will be using this time to make thread and listen to stories on audiobook. The work in “Tromp as Writ” is about convergences of text and textiles, and this performance is an additional way for Thatch to combine cloth and language in one experience.
Thatch invites you to play the livestream in the background – maybe on mute, listening to music or stories of your own – and use the time to join her in doing something that lets you enjoy how small actions over time accumulate into something larger. Whether you choose to spin, knit, cook, practice an instrument, read, draw, or something else entirely, Thatch hopes the performance gives you a reason to engage in something you enjoy, knowing that at least one other person is working along with you.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSPM5FwTSsc
