Center for East Asian Studies | Transporting Jade in China

This lecture is part of the Center for East Asian Studies Fall Semester Lectures program.
Yulian Wu, assistant professor in the History Department at Michigan State University, specializes in material culture, gender relations, and Manchu studies in early modern China. She will be speaking on her current project titled, “Crafting Jade: The Construction of Objects and Empire in Eighteenth-Century China,” which explores jade production and consumption in the High Qing period. This talk will offer historical connection to current issues involving China’s Xinjiang Province from the perspective of natural resources and craft production.
UW-Madison Art History Professor Yuhang Li will moderate the lecture.
