CANCELED: Chazen Gallery Talk: Marianne Fairbanks
March 12, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Marianne Fairbanks (Assistant Professor, School of Human Ecology: Art), presents a gallery talk about her piece, Radiant Indeterminacy.
Radiant Indeterminacy / 2019
Fairbanks’ piece in Niche XVI (16) consists of a flagging-tape installation on the window in conversation with a work by Richard Anuszkiewicz installed on the adjacent wall across from the niche. Anuszkiewicz’s process, use of geometric forms, and use of vibrant colors all resonate with Fairbanks’ enlarged weave structures in palettes of bright colors, bringing forth geometric forms and vivid patterns to loudly disorient the viewer.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marianne Fairbanks received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her BFA from the University of Michigan. Mathematic-logic systems serve as the springboard for her bold, material-based work realized as weavings, sculptures, and prints.
