Community Conversation: Altar Project and Day of the Dead Fiesta

November 19, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

On Tuesday, November 19 the Center for Design and Material Culture invites SoHE community members, broadly defined, to have a moderated conversation that helps us think together about the Community Altar Project in the lobby and Day of the Dead Celebration held on Nov. 1. Led by moderator Dominic Ledesma, who directs the UW Cooperative Extension’s Language Access Team, this conversation will help us learn more about how and why we celebrate this special holiday in SoHE and how we should approach it in the future in our school. We will watch part of Prof. Kallenborn‘s film “La Vida y Los Muertos” and talk together about the transformative possibilities and challenges of being invited in to participate in a cultural tradition. As we plan for future celebrations in SoHE, how can we best understand the meanings of these community projects and public event for our school?

Event will be in the Wisconsin Idea Room and food will be provided.
