Frontiers, Conservation and Armed Conflict in the Colombian Amazon

Presented by: Professor German Palacio. Professor Palacio is fall 2020 UW Tinker Visiting Professor. Dr. Palacio teaches at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, campus Amazonia (in Leticia). He has a PhD from Florida International University-Miami. Palacio is the author of several books including: Ecologia Politica de la Amazonia (2010) and Territorios Improbables (2018) and multiple articles on the Amazonian region and environmental history and political ecology. He was also a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Human Dimensions Program for Global Environmental Change, and has been a Fulbright Scholar.

This lecture focuses on contemporary Amazon history, in a period when the Amazon has become not only a globalized region, but also a region strongly defined in environmental or ecological terms and with presence of armed conflict.
