MFAH | Convos w/Artists Amalia Mesa-Bains & David Taylor

November 1, 2021 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

In the next Conversations with Artists, The U.S./Mexico Border features American artists Amalia Mesa-Bains and David Taylor in conversation with photography curator Malcolm Daniel and Latin American art curator Mari Carmen Ramírez. They talk about how the artists’ work explores the complex dynamics, agents, and victims of la frontera (the border).
This series brings MFAH curators together with artists whose works shaped the inaugural installations and special commissions for the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building.
In Transparent Migrations, Amalia Mesa-Bains explores the harsh realities and invisible status of working-class Latinas in the United States. For his Monuments series, David Taylor photographed all 276 boundary markers that delineate the 690 miles of the U.S./Mexico border from the Rio Grande to the Pacific Ocean. The work of both artists is on view in the Border installation on the third floor of the Kinder Building.
