Whitney Museum of American Art: Ask a Curator “Dawoud Bey: An American Project”
May 6, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Online, via Zoom
Join assistant curator Elisabeth Sherman and curatorial assistant Ambika Trasi for an overview of the exhibition Dawoud Bey: An American Project. For more than four decades, Dawoud Bey has used the camera to create poignant meditations on visibility, power, and race, chronicling communities and histories that have largely been underrepresented or even unseen.
The exhibition traces continuities across Bey’s major series, from his earliest street portraits in Harlem through his most recent project imagining an escape from slavery on the Underground Railroad. For this event, Sherman and Trasi will provide an overview of the exhibition and then take questions from the audience.
