Michael Feinberg

Ph.D. Student

Michael specializes in French painting and visual culture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Working at the intersection of history and visual studies, he is broadly interested in aesthetics and psycho-cultural histories of the self. His MA thesis turned to Anne-Louis Girodet and how depicted line and light work to ignite an intimate rapport between a beholder and an image.  In addition to being a frequent contributor to EdgeEffects, Michael regular presents his work at conferences such as the Midwest Art History Society,  Interdisciplinary Nineteenth Century Studies, and The Society for French Historical Studies.
