Mark's dissertation examines the emergence of monstrance reliquaries, contextualizing the development of their visual form alongside contemporaneous theories of optics and natural history. His areas of interest include the history of science, medicine, and technology, cross-cultural exchange between the Islamic East and Christian West, the cult of the saints, and natural philosophy from the 12th-14th century.
