Cortney Anderson Kramer

Position title: Ph.D. Candidate

Kramer’s research builds upon work that exists on the fringes of the art world and its potential to help us work through the age old questions “what is art?” and “who is an artist?” Particularly, her work highlights the permeability of the art world and market, proposing a network of stakeholders and value-makers that extend beyond the institution and into unexpected, even humble, places. Strongly rooted in cultural history and sociology, her areas of interest include the history of printed media, heritage and tourism, craft, regional arts and histories, and the nineteenth- and twentieth-centuries broadly.
