We are pleased to announce a celebratory event organized to honor recently retired Professor Henry Drewal, Evjue-Bascom Professor of Art History and Afro-American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It will be held at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art on February 27–28th, 2020. The event will consist of a public conversation between Prof. Drewal and NMAfA Director, Dr. Gus Casely-Hayford on February 27th starting at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, February 28, a day-long symposium, “Bound Together: Papers in Honor of Henry Drewal,” will feature his former and current graduate students, as Bolaji Campbell, Shannen Hill, Janine Sytsma, Matthew Rarey, and Fernanda Villarroel, among many others.
We will close with delicious Caribbean food, drinks, and live music ranging from classic highlife to contemporary West African beats.
