The UW–Madison Department of Art History will have a strong showing at this year’s College Art Association Annual Conference in Chicago. Here is the schedule of our department’s faculty and students by day of the conference: Thursday, February 15th11:00am–12:30pm:–Dr. David Norman (Henry John Drewal Postdoctoral Fellow) will present the paper “Witnessing, Visiting, Rematriation: The Intersubjectivity of Jessie Kleemann’s Homage to Soil for Scoresbysund” in the session “Rematriation: Indigenous Lands, Return, and the Aesthetics of Turtle Island,” which co-chaired by UW–Madison alum Professor Kendra Greendeer (Oklahoma State University).–Professor Daniel Spaulding will chair the session “Connecting Performance Works.”4:30–6:00pm:–Professor Steffani Bennett will be presenting the paper “Splashed Ink and Cloudy Mountains: Sesshū’s Creation of a Literati Landscape in Late Medieval Japan” during the session “Contact, Consumption, and Cross-cultural Conversation Across 15th–19th Century Landscapes.”–Ph.D. Student Levi Sherman is co-charing the session “Critical Conversations and Incredible Book Works: An Examination of History, Canon and Critical Analysis in the Field of Artist Books.”Friday, February 16th9:00–10:30am:–Professor Nancy Rose Marshall will chair the session “INCS: Visualizing Incorporation in the Long Nineteenth Century.”Saturday, February 17th9:00–10:30am:–Ph.D. Candidate Marie-Agathe Simonetti will be charing the session “Transnationalism of French Colonial and Post-Colonial Visual Culture.” 4:30–6:00pm: –Ph.D. Candidate Gabriel Chazan will be giving the paper “Susan Sontag’s Queer Jewish Immanentism” in the session “Reconsidering the Secular in Art.”
