Community Day Quilt Making: Heal, Create, & Share
Artist Roberto Torres Mata invites community members to join him for an afternoon of quilt making on Saturday, June 1 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm in the Arts + Literature Laboratory galleries.
The quilt making activity is part of the group exhibition, Heal, Create, and Share, curated by Mata, which is on view through June 22.
“This project aims to create a powerful and accessible platform that raises awareness about mental health and actively involves the community in the process of healing and destigmatization,” Mata explains, “With broader issues currently happening around the world, I want to address mental health issues locally and become more involved with my community and listen to the stories and voices that too often go unheard.”
This program was made possible with support from Dane Arts, Madison Arts Commission, Wisconsin Arts Board, and RISE Wisconsin, with additional funds from the Endres Manufacturing Company Foundation, the Evjue Foundation, Inc., charitable arm of The Capital Times, the W. Jerome Frautschi Foundation, and the Pleasant T. Rowland Foundation.
