Faculty News | Sialussuartut | Like a Cloudburst: Redefining Greenlandic Art History Symposium

This symposium celebrates the opening of the Danish National Gallery’s first major exhibition of work by Kalaaleq Inuk artist Jessie Kleemann. Sialussuartut / Like a Cloudburst honors Kleemann’s efforts to expand the field of possibility for Greenlandic artists throughout her esteemed, four decade-long career. Taking its point of departure in her experimental practice, the symposium brings together artists and curators from Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland), Alaska, and Sápmi, and aims to spark renewed dialogue about contemporary Greenlandic art, embodied action, and the politics and aesthetics of decolonization. The event is co-organized by David W. Norman, Henry John Drewal Postdoctoral Fellow at UW–Madison, and Anna Vestergaard Jørgensen, postdoctoral fellow at the SMK and Aarhus University. The event will be live-streamed (no fee, but pre-registration required), you can register here.
