In the wake of the white supremacist demonstrations in Charlottesville (2017), and the murder of George Floyd (2020), this panel considers what 5 objects of art and literature reveal about intersections between pre-modern and contemporary ideas about race, racism and cultural difference. Panelists include Faisal Abdu’Allah (Professor, Art), Thomas Dale (Professor, Art History), Maxwell Gray (Ph.D. Student, English); Tirumular (Drew) Naryanan (Ph.D. Student, Art History); Nandini Pandey (Professor, Classics/CANES).
