This fall semester, Professor Yuhang Li will be teaching ART HIST 411 Opera & Chinese Visual Culture | MW 2:30–3:45pm| Sophomore Standing | L&S Credit | Humanities Breadth. Enroll here. Description: This course is tailored to an exhibition on Chinese opera and textiles that will be featured in the Ruth Davis Design Gallery on the campus of UW–Madison in the near future. The passion for opera throughout China from tenth century to present day is clear from the rich material objects produced for the stage performance and for off stage everyday consumption. Based on the collections from the museums in the mid-west, students will learn research methods related to the visual and material history of Chinese opera and ideation techniques to develop concepts for this curatorial project. This course will provide the conceptual and technical tools necessary to transform these curatorial ideas into an exhibition design within a physical space.
