Happy Juneteenth!

Today we recognize and celebrate the national holiday, Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas first learned of the Emancipation Proclamation. Today we honor Black Americans and reflect on their activism to push our nation towards its founding ideals. These portraits by Chris Ofili depict 30 visions of black women, celebrating the diversity among Black identities by presenting differences in each figure.
