Congratulations to Kristin Phillips-Court, Associate Professor of Italian and Art History, whose article on Raphael’s Parnassus fresco will be featured in the fall edition of I Tatti Studies. In her article, Professor Phillips-Court explores how Vasari filtered a vast history through the prism of his own experiences as artist, writer, humanist, and italico. Highlighting Vasari’s pastoral “lyric turn” in the vita of Raphael, Kristin not only proposes new identifications, but also offers further insights into how he conceptualized his historical project, how poetry shaped it, and how the fragility of human memory fueled his poetic invention.
