PhD candidate Fernanda Villarroel was selected in a national competition to represent UW-Madison in the Humanities Without Walls Summer Pre-Doctoral Workshop, summer of 2019, coordinated by The Center for the Humanities. She’ll join a cohort of PhD students committed to public works and engagement to develop professional skills as a public scholar. During the Fall of 2018, she was part of the curatorial board of Art Summit-Nigeria, which gathered artists Kehinde Wiley, Eric Van Hove, Andrew Dosunmu, and Ibrahim Mahama, among others, for two days of public discussions, workshops, and exhibitions in the megacity of Lagos. This spring, she will be back in Lagos with Professor Henry Drewal to participate in the third edition of danceGATHERING, an annual Dance Lab and Anti-disciplinary Festival co-curated by Qudus Onikeke, dancer, choreographer and artistic director of the QDance Center, Lagos, and Onye Ozuzu, Dean of the School of Arts, University of Florida.
