Biography
Dehlia is a Ph.D. Student interested in gender and material culture in early modern China. She received her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and her M.A. from Columbia University. Her M.A. thesis focused on the making, trade, and circulation of embroidery needles in nineteenth century China, and the competing understandings of quality which developed as European needles were imported. Her research interests are in sewing and embroidery, embroidery tools and patterns, the circulation of embroidered objects and knowledge, the relationship between women’s work and technology, and the cultural and economic value of women’s domestic technology.
