In January, Eva Kushner (’24) visited the 70th edition of The Winter Show located at the historic Park Avenue Armory in New York City to experience the booth of esteemed UW–Madison alum, art dealer, and gallery owner Joan B. Mirviss, who specializes in Japanese ceramics. Eva was an intern for JBM Ltd in Summer 2023 and had the incredible opportunity to learn about the behind-the-scenes operations of this incredible art, antiques, and design fair. She also took part in Young Collectors Night, which is just one event that takes place as a benefit for East Side House Settlement.
The artists on view were displayed in alignment with the current exhibition being held at The Art Institute of Chicago titled Radical Clay: Contemporary Women Artists from Japan, which highlights the generations of Japanese women who have excelled in their ambitious and innovative ceramics. The exhibition contains works by ceramicists that Joan represents, and Eva had the unique opportunity to handle and research during her time working at the gallery.
