Student Spotlight: Fernanda Villarroel (Ph.D. Candidate) Awarded AAUW Grant

Ph.D. Candidate Fernanda Villarroel has been awarded a highly competitive American Association of University Women (AAUW) dissertation fellowship. Though she must decline the fellowship as she is already finishing her dissertation “Figurations of the Feminine in Contemporary Art from Lagos, Nigeria” with the support of the prestigious Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship, the award remains a distinct honor. After defending, Fernanda will begin her post as a Sylvan C. Coleman and Pamela Coleman Memorial Fund Fellow in the Department of African and Oceanic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
