Student Spotlight: LauraLee Brott Wins Medieval Academy of America Dissertation Grant

LauraLee Brott (Ph.D. Candidate) has received the Charles T. Wood Dissertation Grant from the Medieval Academy of America to support research travel for her dissertation, “The Holy Land within the Manuscript: Performative Cartography in BL Add. MS 10049.” Her project investigates how a pair of maps in BL Add. MS 10049 dynamically engage their manuscript setting, arguing that during the twelfth century, there is a progression toward engineering maps as direct aids to the texts they accompany, a contribution typically credited to the Early Modern period. You can find her work on the Tournai Map of Asia (BL Add. MS 10049, fol. 64r) on Virtual Mappaemundi: sims2.digitalmappa.org/36
