This course by Ph.D. Candidate Saeedeh Asadipour follows the development of art theories and styles from 1850 to 1970 in a close relation to the idea of modernity. Special focus will be on the historical context that created the impetus for change: industrialization, urbanization, new technologies, war, etc. By discussing a wide range of artworks (from Impressionism to Pop Art, Manet to Warhol), this course studies modern art by considering its lingering influences on our contemporary age even after the official end of Modernism as a movement.
