Amy L. Powell (Ph.D. 2012, M.A. 2007) has been appointed Curator of Campus Arts Research at the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. In this newly created position in the office of Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Arts Integration, Amy will commission contemporary artists to respond to specific campus sites and resources, cultivating a unique blend of creativity and scholarship. The role will develop partnerships across academic programs, research centers, engagement units, student life, athletics, and more to bring interdisciplinary artistic creations to life that enrich the campus, advance the university’s mission, and make significant contributions to fields within contemporary art, curatorial practice, and more. Amy will remain Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at Krannert Art Museum. Her new position elevates her research-focused work with contemporary artists at KAM over the past nine years, including significant solo projects with Zina Saro-Wiwa, Autumn Knight, Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, Kennedy Browne, Nancy Davidson & Lakshmi Ramgopal (co-curated with Clara Bosak-Schroeder), Louise Fishman, and Jen Everett (co-curated with Blair Ebony Smith).
