On November 7 and 8, 2024, Professor Jennifer Pruitt will host the “Reinventing Islamic Architecture in the 20th and 21st Centuries” symposium. Eleven scholars from the U.S. and abroad will present papers that investigate the phenomenon of 20th- and 21st-century architecture making references to pre-modern Islamic monuments and built environments. Professor Pruitt and UW-Madison PhD candidate Ahmed Abdelazim will both present research on the meaning of Islamic architecture in 20th century Egypt. The event takes place November 7 and 8 and is open to the public.
