Mirviss Chair in Japanese Art, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“Painting and the Practices of Quitman ‘Gene’ Phillips: A Celebration of a Career in Japanese Art History” took place on Friday April 16, 2021. In addition to festive conversations, short Japanese art history talks that respond to Gene’s scholarship were given by Shimao Arata, Sherry Fowler, Melissa McCormick, Ikumi Kaminishi, Julie Davis, Laura Mueller, and Joan Mirviss.
