
Professor Preeti Chopra publishes a chapter, “Palimpsests of Colonial Bombay,” in “The City as Oeuvre, the Oeuvre of the City,” edited by Gyan Prakash. The catalogue is published in conjunction with the Delhi Art Gallery (DAG) exhibit “Bombay Framed: People, Memory, Metropolis” at DAG Gallery 2, Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai, February 22 through April 11, 2026. The exhibition showcases the city of Bombay through a variety of media, including paintings, photographs, prints, archival material, and film memorabilia. In doing so, it invites the viewer to see Bombay in all its complexity as a city shaped by individuals and communities. The city’s many faces are revealed, from its architecture and city landscape, skyline, portraits, people, cinema, monsoons, crowded pavements, the sea, and so much more. This visually stunning catalogue has essays from Bombay experts who come from various perspectives, focusing on varying aspects of Bombay’s visual archive to reveal a multifaceted city.
