Biography
Sarah Ganzel holds a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College, an MA in Viking and Medieval Norse Studies from the University of Iceland, and an MA in Art History and Advanced Certificate in Curatorial Studies from CUNY Hunter College. She is interested in the socio-material and tactile dynamics of medieval art and especially in how medieval manuscripts mediated users’ relationships to the self and others. Her recent research has examined the “social lives” of medieval oath books.
In addition to her love of medieval art, Ganzel enjoys exploring parallels between medieval and contemporary modes of expression and has curated contemporary art exhibitions at LOAM.fun, Casa Lally, and FROSCH&CO in New York City. This interest extends to her work with the Royal Heraldry Society of Canada, where she serves as Assistant Editor of the society’s journal, Alta Studia Heraldica, and organizes the society’s online lecture series in her role as Programming Officer.
