Biography
Yifei Wang’s research focuses on material culture and print culture in early modern Japan. Before coming to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she received her M.A. from Boston University. Her MA thesis analyses a pair of screens painted by a Japanese painter, Kano Sansetsu. Her paper investigates the prolonged aftereffects brought by the Imjin War, especially how the circulation of printed books and moveable types transformed Japan’s intellectual landscape and conditioned regional artistic creations. Her research interests include how artistic creations in Japan were conditioned by the flourishing print culture during the early seventeenth-century, and how technological transformations conditioned art-making processes.
