Ph.D. Candidate Ahmed Abdelazim‘s project was selected for the graduate student workshop at the Association of Modern and Contemporary Art in the Arab World, Iran, and Turkey (AMCA) that took place from November 3rd–6th at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Ahmed discussed a work in progress titled “Modernizing Islam or Islamizing modernity,” which examines Islamic teachings in relation to modernity in art and architecture.
Ahmed also delivered a paper, “Preachers of Islamic architecture: Locating the Islamic in Egypt’s architectural discourse,” at the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) that took place in Denver, CO during December 1st–4th.
