Art History alumna Anna Betz (B.A., 2017; M.A., 2020), Interim School Manager and Teaching Artist at Ballet Co. Laboratory, has just launched her Indiegogo fundraising campaign to begin production of the first phase of the ballet. Inspired by her undergraduate and graduate art history studies in medieval Italian art and literature, Anna began developing this ballet based on Dante’s Divine Comedy while at UW–Madison. You can support Anna’s project here. About the Project: The Divine Comedy Ballet is striving to break stereotypes of ‘classical ballets’ by introducing a new narrative that grapples with the largest questions about the human experience. Based on the famous poem written by Dante Alighieri 700 years ago, The Divine Comedy Ballet plunges audiences into the darkest depths of hell and leads them on a journey that culminates with the ascent through the sublime spheres of divine bliss.
