Virtual Exhibition: Finding Slavery in a Campus Art Museum: Past and Present

In response to calls for social justice in the summer of 2020, Prof. Ann Smart Martin’s Fall AH 601: Museum Studies class searched the collections of The Chazen Museum of Art to locate and interpret objects related to the enslavement of Black people in the Americas. They discovered how historical art objects contain hidden stories of slavery and how museums as institutions enable racism. Using methods and ideals from material culture analysis, the class created a virtual exhibition Finding Slavery in a Campus Art Museum: Past and Present.

Conference: Library Architecture in North America 

Dr. Maxi Schreiber, Post-Doctoral Fellow in Art History, organized and conducted her conference “Library Architecture in North America,” virtually March 26–27th. The lectures are now available online and the Q&A is open until April 27th, 2020.
