Enroll here. Description: From the Grand Shrine at Ise to Hokusai’s Great Wave, Japanese art is among the world’s great artistic traditions, distinguished by its diversity and creativity. This course explores artistic production in Japan from the prehistoric period to the twenty-first century. In the course, you will learn to analyze key examples of painting, sculpture, architecture, prints, and ceramics. Important themes that will be addressed include processes of cultural adoption and transformation, the role that religious belief played in shaping artistic expression, and the relationship between artistic production and sociopolitical development
