Report from the Field | Claire Kilgore Notes from Graz

This summer, Ph.D. Candidate Claire Kilgore traveled to Graz, Austria to examine the early-sixteenth-century Large Miracle Altar from the Mariazell pilgrimage church. She also examined woodcuts of the miracles that were produced to advertise the shrine that are now held in the collections of the Albertina (Vienna) and Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (Kupferstichkabinett).

These objects will comprise a chapter of her dissertation: “Sensing the Bodily Interior: Pregnancy and the Generative Body in Religious and Medical Practice in Late Medieval German-speaking Lands.”
