Student Spotlight | Levi Sherman Researches at the JFABC

At the end of March, Ph.D. Student Levi Sherman conducted research at the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection (JFABC) at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As part of his research into Germano Celant’s exhibition Book as Artwork 1960/1972 — the first documented exhibition of artists’ books — Levi viewed scores of artists’ books included in that exhibition. Book as Artwork 1960/1972 will be the subject of Levi’s qualifying paper, as well as a starting point into a broader discourse analysis of contemporary artists’ books. This research was funded by a Member Support Grant from the College Book Art Association. Research assistance was provided by Special Collections Manager April Sheridan and JFABC’s student library workers.
