
Ph.D. Candidate Özlem Eren took part in the Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) Graduate Student Forum, “Russia’s War against Ukraine and the Academic Landscape of Area Studies,” on Thursday, February 23rd.
Russia’s war against Ukraine has been changing the way we think of our civil and moral responsibility as educators and scholars. It has also changed the conditions under which we do research and conceive of the future of our fields. These issues are particularly urgent for graduate students who begin their research careers today. How has the war changed research agendas and research questions? What does it mean to be an academic expert on the region when the region is engulfed in war?
